Greenville, MS: The Medical Center is celebrating and honoring employees during National Hospital Week May 7-13, 2023. The Medical Center is more than a place to heal, it is part of the community that fosters health and represents hope to many. The Medical Center, along with more than 6,000 hospitals nationwide, join together this week to share a common health care mission and praise those individuals who give of themselves every day to improve the lives of others. National Hospital Week is sponsored by the American Hospital Association (AHA). Their theme for 2023 is “We Are Health Care”.
“I am thankful for the meaningful work of my staff all year round, but this is a very special week at the hospital enjoying the fellowship and thanking the wonderful team who care for others throughout the year,” said Iris Y. Stacker, Chief Executive Officer. “Our staff is present each day to provide compassionate and quality care to our patients and their family. National Hospital Week is a week that we can highlight and honor our team for the positive impact that each have on our facility and community.”
National Hospital Day was created in 1921 to encourage trust in hospitals in the wake of the Spanish flu outbreak of 1918. It was later turned into a weeklong celebration in 1953, coinciding with Florence Nightingale’s birthday to honor her role in revolutionizing hospital care in the mid-1800's.
“Hospital Week is an avenue to acknowledge our employees for their commitment to caring for patients, families, and each other. The past few years have shown how vital healthcare plays in our lives, so we publicly show our gratitude to the staff,” said Chrissy Nicholson, Vice-President of Human Resources.
